Digital (Video, Prints) > Charing Cross (video suite)

Charing Cross is an ongoing suite of videos begun while on residency at Gallery Aferro in Newark, New Jersey. The name of the suite references the idea of a journey, a nexus point, an intersection and a point of transition.

Each takes as their subject the ephemeral, materiality and the liminal moment.

The sound for these pieces was created by:

Malina Rauschenfels - composer and performer on Charing Cross: Newark and Charing Cross: Cartridge.

Margret Hjaltested - interpreter and performer on Charing Cross: himna (based on the Icelandic hymn - Heyr himna smiður)

The digital is, for me, the material of the immaterial. It is an external/internal space which at once exists as a collective gesalt and as a discrete and personal space. A material of light and information augmented through the long-distance imagining of dithering. Like a Color-field painting, the fragmentary nature of the digital implies an infinite expanse which cannot be fully grasped within a single moment. It is analogous to the space of the mind, limited in the moment but infinite in its borders and possibilities.
